Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke took full responsibility for his penalty mistake against Bournemouth on Saturday, revealed manager Roy Hodgson.
With the game locked ay 2-2, Benteke missed a penalty kick in stoppage time. The Belgian had asked usual spot-kick taker, Luka Milivojevic, if he could take the penalty, even though Milivojevic had scored earlier in there game.
But the Palace boss said Benteke was quick to take responsibility for the mistake.
"The first thing that [Benteke] made very clear to me was that it was not Luka's fault at all, he said 'this is totally my responsibility, it was me that persuaded Luka'," Hodgson revealed.
"He was anxious to make sure that Luka didn't in any way come in for any form of criticism."
He added: "But I'm very happy with the way he's reacted to it; I'm happy with the way he's taken responsibility; I'm happy with the way he's explained that to the rest of the team, not just to myself.
"He's had the courage to talk in front of the team and explain his decision and basically apologise for not following the instructions he should have done."
