Former Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has hailed Christian Benteke as a 'terrific signing' for Liverpool.

Lambert brought Benteke to Villa Park from Genk in 2012 for a meagre £5.5million and is filled with nothing but praise for the Belgian, who should complete a £32.5million move to Liverpool this week.

"I think he is going to do great... Christian phoned me yesterday and I had a good chat with him. I am delighted for him, he has got a move to a really big, big club," said the Scotsman.

Lambert was asked about whether or not Benteke would fit in to Liverpool's style and his answer was emphatic.

"He will score all types of goals," Lambert added. "If you look at the the way he plays, especially his first year at Aston Villa, where he was a phenomenon.

"He was third behind (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Lionel) Messi in goalscoring ratio.

"I think he is one of the best No 9s I have seen in a long time."
