Darren Bent is expected at Tottenham today for his medical ahead of completing his £16 million move from Charlton Athletic.

The People says Bent has opted for White Hart Lane after rejecting a move to West Ham for the same fee, plus £1m-rated Hayden Mullins. It means Bent has accepted a £45,000 a week package rather than the £75,000 which was on offer at Upton Park, as he chose to play for Spurs boss Martin Jol rather than his former manager Alan Curbishley, now in charge of the Hammers.

Spurs will make a down-payment of £13m with a possible further £3m in add-ons. It is a cash-only deal as Charlton boss Alan Pardew decided against taking any players as part of the package.
