Benni McCarthy fears things could turn ugly at West Ham

Benni McCarthy knows things at West Ham United will turn "ugly" if they do not start winning.

West Ham fans turned on their players during last night's defeat to Wolves.

South Africa striker McCarthy told the London Evening Standard: "I have been in this situation before so perhaps that will help. Last season at Blackburn was similar. Sam Allardyce came in with 10 games left and we managed to win every home game, which ensured safety with two games to go.

"From what I've seen, we have much more technical ability in this squad, better players than when I was at Blackburn. We are an attractive side who should be much higher in the table but we have had our problems behind the scenes which would have made it difficult for any club to do well.

"The staff and the players are getting on with it. We know that, if we don't deal with things on the pitch, then things could look really ugly.

"I came here with the attitude that I wasn't going to worry about relegation because I believed, and still believe, that there is too much talent here for that to happen."
