Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants to compete with Inter Milan for Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho.

Aware of reports that Chelsea have discussed a deal with Inter for Portugal international Carvalho, Benitez wants Liverpool to throw their hat in the ring, says the Mirror.

But with Liverpool's American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks refusing to discuss transfers until mid-December, Benitez fears they'll miss out on Carvalho.
