The 28-year old Spaniard is nowhere near the player he was under Benitez at Liverpool but his countryman is convinced he still has plenty to offer despite failing to fire under three Blues managers thus far.
"He's not exactly the same player now, because he was at maximum level at this time (with Liverpool)," Benitez said.
"But I think he can come back. How close? I don't know. It depends on the rest of the team.
"I'm sure he can improve, but the team has to help him."
Torres' next chance to try and regain his best form will be in Wednesday night's home meeting with Southwest London rivals Fulham.
