Benitez survives Chelsea axe with no quality replacements available

Rafa Benitez is set to stay with Chelsea as there's no-one available to replace him. The Daily Star says Benitez has lost the confidence of the Chelsea board and seen the support of owner Roman Abramovich disappear within two months of his arrival at Stamford Bridge as interim boss to replace Roberto Di Matteo.

Failure to beat Swansea over two legs in the Capital One Cup and then a dismal draw at Brentford on Sunday in the FA Cup have left the Spaniard out on a limb.

But he will be spared the axe, for the time being at least, because the club don't have anyone else lined up to step in.

That leaves Benitez having to see out the remainder of the season as a dead man walking, with his fate sealed in the summer.
