Rafa Benitez says the survival belief has returned at Newcastle United.

Though Newcastle could only draw at home to Manchester City, that vibrant display has fuelled Benitez's own confidence and restored hope among the sceptics.

“Before, we didn't have a left back and we had lost the keeper so we had so many setbacks, even the players thought it was impossible," he said.

“I accept it was not just players, fans and staff, a lot of people thought we couldn't do it.

“But after these two games with the new team spirit, I think a lot of them are now saying we can so we will see.

“We are still making mistakes and we know Liverpool are doing well so it will be interesting to see our reaction."
