Rafa Benitez has revealed how one supporter's flag flown at Liverpool games convinced him most about signing his new contract this week.
"The flag has a picture of me on it and the Spanish phrase, siempre es posible," he said. "It is flown at all our home games, and I even noticed it at the Bernabeu, when we played Real Madrid in the Champions League.
"It belongs to one of our supporters, and he carries it to every game. I actually met him at Melwood last week, and I had to laugh, because he was telling me I had to sign and saying, 'I hope it is for 10 years, no, make that 20 years'. It was really funny, but it also showed the incredible passion of the Liverpool fans and the support they give their manager.
"I also remember facing Porto in the Champions League last season and how the fans demonstrated for me by marching to the ground before the game. That is something I will never forget and is one of the reasons why this club is so special to me.
"I am really pleased for myself and my family that everything has been sorted out, but also hopefully for the fans. When you have such fantastic examples of how people are backing you, it makes decisions like this very easy. I only ever wanted to stay at Liverpool, and I am delighted it has turned out that way. It is because of our fans I have signed."
