Benitez implores Chelsea to be merciless

Rafael Benitez has urged his Chelsea side to be more ruthless in front of goal.

The Blues squandered a two-goal lead to be held to a 2-2 draw by Southampton at Stamford Bridge tonight and the Spaniard was left to rue the fact his side could not add to their half-time advantage.

"We have to be more clinical. At 2-0 up you have to manage the game. We have to have some experience, score the third goal and kill the game but we didn't do that," he told Sky Sports.

"We had chances, we had a lot of chances again. Taking our chances has to be the key.

"We are in the top three so we will try to be as high as possible and try to get three points in the next game - that's it."

Demba Ba netted his first Premier League goal for Chelsea in the 25th minute before Eden Hazard scored with a fine side-footed volley on the stroke of half-time but Rickie Lambert's 58th minute header and Jason Puncheon's 75th minute volley allowed the Saints to take a point back to St Mary's.
