Benitez facing Chelsea SACK over top four fears
Rafa Benitez is fighting for his job at Chelsea as a high-level inquest is launched. The Daily Star says Sunday's dismal display in the FA Cup draw at Brentford has left Benitez on the brink of a humiliating exit just over two months after being named interim manager.
Owner Roman Abramovich was quick to make his feelings known after the European champions were only spared a humiliating defeat to the League One side by a late Fernando Torres strike.
Questions are now being asked by senior officials at the club whether Benitez can be relied on to lead Chelsea to a top-four finish in the league this season.
There is a growing belief that the Spaniard has not had the desired impact on performances and results - and that the players have never taken to Benitez since he replaced the popular Roberto Di Matteo.
