Rafa Benitez was left disappointed for the travelling Newcastle supporters who witnessed their side lose two leads in their 2-2 draw with Southampton.
Saints forward Manolo Gabbiadini equalised after Isaac Hayden opened the scoring for the Magpies. The Italian then got his second when he scored from the spot to cancel Ayoze Perez's strike.
"We did well but still we conceded two goals so something was wrong," Benitez told Sky Sports.
"We have to keep working hard and keep improving.
"My only disappointment was for the fans because we brought 3,500 fans this distance on a Sunday. It is a pity because we could have got three points and we would have been coming back happier."
