Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez is delighted with Sergio Ramos' new deal.

Benitez took to social media to welcome the news.

"At midday today, after the first team's morning training session, I returned to the Santiago Bernabéu to attend an event to officially mark defender Sergio Ramos's new five-year contract extension. I think it's great news for the club, the squad and the player," he wrote.

"I'm really pleased and that's exactly what I told both the president and the defender when I saw them. When I was asked in preseason about him possibly leaving the club I always said I was sure he'd stay. I'm really pleased I was right because he's a very important asset to us."
