The Metropolitan Police are investigating incidences of coin throwing which allegedly occurred during Chelsea's 2-0 win over London rivals West Ham United at Stamford Bridge today.
Frank Lampard scored his 200th Chelsea goal in the 19th minute and celebrated in front of the Hammers fans with coins being launched into the playing arena by the away support.
Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez, however, did not blame his players for the part they played in the incident saying they would not have known exactly where they were on the pitch.
"When you score 200 goals you don't think too much about where you go," Benitez said.
"You celebrate and afterwards we realised he would've been better to be in another part."
A West Ham statement made it clear that the East London club would work with the Chelsea and the Met Police to pick up the offenders.
"West Ham United will be working with Chelsea to investigate the reports of missile throwing during Sunday's game at Stamford Bridge," read the statement.
"Any individual found to have acted in an inappropriate way will have to face the consequences of their actions, including the possibility of a ban from attending future matches."
