The Cape Verde-born 24-year-old, who has Portuguese nationality, is keen to make a move away from Portuguese football to a bigger league this summer, although Villa face competition from Spanish club Sevilla.

He told Portuguese sports paper Record: "It's my ambition to play abroad in a bigger and more competitive league.

"I would not refuse Aston Villa or Sevilla if the clubs reach an agreement with Benfica."
