Benfica must up their bid if they're to land Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves.

Record says Benfica have informed Boro they're willing to offer £10 million for Alves, but that falls short of their valuation.

Alves' agent, Roberto Tibúrcio, was recently in Lisbon and expected in England this week to accelerate negotiations between the two clubs.
