Benfica’s Adu heading back to Portugal

Benfica’s Freddy Adu was delighted after helping the US national team record a 2-0 victory over Honduras in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in Washington.

The 20-year old will now head back to Portugal to train with Benfica and attempt to push his way into the first team.

"Obviously, it’s important to get preseason in with your team,” he said after the match.

“It gives you the best chance of being a part of the team for this season so both the coaching staffs, my coaching staff here obviously and the coaching staff in Portugal thought it was important."
