Benfica are joining the battle for Valencia defender Marco Caneira.
The Portugal international has been the subject of lengthy negotiations with Sporting Lisbon in recent weeks. However, new Benfica coach Quique Sanchez Flores is also keen and instructed sports chief Rui Costa to go back to his old club and sign Caneira.
Flores is also chasing Valencia midfielder David Albelda.
