Craig Bellamy believes the Liverpool team is a very capable outfit that needs a little bit of luck to get the right results.
The Reds have been desperately unlucky in a number of Premier League outings this season and the Welsh striker has been buoyed by the positive performances of late.
The recent Carling Cup triumph was slightly overshadowed by the 2-1 home loss to Arsenal on Saturday, which Liverpool dominated for large portions, but Bellamy feels a slight bit of luck and it could be a different story for the seventh-placed Merseysiders.
"Sitting on the bench, I was a spectator for the Arsenal game and whenever I watch this team I like what I see.
"We played some great football. But we didn't make it count last Saturday and unfortunately a lot of games have been like that.
"We haven't got the results in the league this season that a lot of our play has deserved. I think the personnel are here. It's just fine margins - we're that close."
He added: "We won the League Cup, we're still in the FA Cup and we've still got plenty to play for in the league. That's not a bad season.
"There's a lot to be positive about.""Talking as a Liverpool fan and not as a player, this is a good Liverpool team," he told the club's official website.
