Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has sent a national team doctor to Birmingham to check on the fitness of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
Villa manager Paul Lambert appeared to rule out any prospect of Benteke being involved against Croatia, or Wales four days later, after pencilling him in for a return against Tottenham on October 20 and insisting he would not be 'unfit for us and then play for Belgium.'
But that did not deter Wilmots from despatching physio Lieven Maesschalck to Birmingham in the last 24 hours to consult with his key striker and also discuss his condition with Villa's medical team.
