Belgium coach Martinez: Lukaku back to best. Man Utd just needed to be patient

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez is delighted seeing Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku return to scoring form.

Lukaku answered some of his critics by scoring two stunning goals to knock Huddersfield out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

And his national coach Martinez, who also managed him at Everton, insists that he just needed time to adapt to joining such a huge club.

“I'm absolutely delighted for him," he told talkSPORT.

“When you go to a new club you get a difficult environment, it was a big transfer fee and away from football you have to mature very quickly.

“I think Romelu has done an incredible job to go to Manchester United and perform in the manner he did in the early months.

“As always, you're going to get ups and downs as a team but then individually to face adversity and to keep showing a level of consistency on the pitch is important.

“Those two goals [against Huddersfield] were clear examples of what he is as a footballer.

“He is a player that, when given that space, he is very difficult to stop and then he's got that composure and poise in the box to be clinical finisher.

“I'm delighted to see that he has overcome that psychological aspect of playing at Manchester United."
