Beijing Guoan striker Ryan Griffiths is being monitored by A-League club Newcastle Jets.

The younger brother of former Jets star Joel, Ryan has been with the Chinese Super League since 2009 after joining from rivals Liaoning.

Jets coach Branko Culina confirmed that the 29-year old, who becomes a free agent in January, is definite alternative for the club.

"Ryan is an option we are looking at," Culina said.

The Jets recently signed former Arsenal and Everton starlet Francis Jeffers on a ten-match guest deal whilst Slovenian-born forward Tomislav Misura has this week begun a trial as they continue their search for a new striker.
