Beijing Guoan reject Griffiths loan talks with Newcastle Jets

Newcastle Jets will not be taking former star striker Joel Griffiths on loan after Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan rejected the chance to enter discussions. The Jets were hoping to bring the 31-year old back to EnergyAustralia Stadium for the rest of the A-League season but executive chairman Ken Edwards confirmed that Beijing were not interested in the notion.

"It's most unlikely that that idea will come off, principally because the indications we're getting from his club is that they're not really interested in talking about him joining us - either for a short stint or a longer stint," Edwards told the Newcastle Herald.

"We even made inquiries about buying his contract out but they indicated they're not interested in having discussions."

However, Edwards did make it clear that the club would pursue the former A-League Player of the Year when his contract in China ends.

"For sure, but that depends on what our priorities are in 12 months' time," he added.
