Begovic determined to show incoming Conte he is rightful Chelsea number one

Asmir Begovic is believed to be determined to prove to new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte that he should be the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

According to The Sun, the Bosnia & Herzegovina international is seeking assurances that he will be kept on by the Blues as their undisputed number one if he performs in the next two matches.

Thibaut Courtois has a two-match suspension after copping a red card in the weekend's disappointing 3-0 loss to Manchester City and Begovic is desperate to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

Belgium international Courtois continues to be linked with a summer move to Real Madrid but former Stoke City star Begovic want to prove that he should be the rightful number one at Stamford Bridge and not merely the 23-year-old's back-up or replacement.

It is believed that Begovic, 28, is on the radar of the likes of West Ham United, Everton and Crystal Palace but would rather stay at Chelsea and be Conte's main keeper.

This season, Begovic has kept eight clean sheets in 22 appearances in all competitions (including the two times he has replaced the twice red-carded Courtois) while the former Atletico Madrid loan star has produced just six shutouts in his 27 outings.
