Begovic admits Chelsea debut not ideal

Chelsea's summer signing Asmir Begovic admits his introduction to the Premier League as a Blues player could have been under better circumstances.

The Bosnian goalkeeper made his debut at Stamford Bridge when he was called into action following Thibaut Courtois's 52nd-minute dismissal against Swansea City.

Former Stoke City star Begovic was beaten by Bafetimbi Gomis' resultant penalty and the game ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge which was not the most optimal of beginnings at a new club.

"No, not ideal at all," he told the club's official website.

"You can't predict these things, it's one of those things where you're thrown in there and try and do your best.

"It was unfortunate with the penalty. I saw it in real time from the bench. It was a difficult one to make out. I think it was harsh to send him off, our guys were covering Thibaut.

"When you go down to 10 men it puts you on the back foot, but we stuck together well, showed good resilience and kept it to the two goals they scored. It was a decent point in the end. We'll take the point and move on to next week."

Begovic will be in the goal against Manchester City on Sunday, as Courtois serves his one-match suspension, provided Chelsea's appeal goes unsuccessful.
