Alan Beenshill has distanced himself from talk of becoming involved in Newcastle United.

The 43-year-old, already a major sponsor of Newcastle United, is said to be mystified at reports he is set to invest in the club and install himself as chairman.

A spokesman for the businessman told the Evening Chronicle: "He has no comment to make about this. If he wants to do something to help the club, like he has in the past, he will be happy to talk about it. This story has not come from him."
