Southampton defender Jan Bednarek believes they are still capable of avoiding relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Saints are enduring a shocking season, which has seen them slip into the drop zone at the worst possible moment.

But Bednarek is still confident the squad can turn it around.

He said the following to the Daily Echo: "We need to improve but I think we can get points in the next games.

"We were really compact [in Sunday's loss to Chelsea] and we worked really hard and that was the positive side of the game.

"We have to improve some simple things then we will be better."
