David Beckham and his Miami franchise have officially revealed plans for a brand new stadium in the Florida city according to Associated Press.
The former Manchester United and LA Galaxy star and his co-investor, Bolivian billionaire Marcelo Claure, have identified a site in downtown Miami where they intend to develop a venue ahead of their expansion into MLS in 2017.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez proposed the site which is situated in an unused boat slip near AmericanAirlines Arena, the home of NBA's Miami Heat.
Already there has been resistance for the proposed site, as there was for Beckham's initial plans in PortMiami, with the Tropical Audubon Society suggesting the 'slip would eliminate a portion of the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves, one of 41 protected coastal areas in the state'.
But Claure is assured things will continue to go ahead as Miami prepares for a professional soccer team ibn the downtown area.
"We are confident as ever that downtown Miami and Major League Soccer are a perfect match," Claure said.
"We're very confident the environmental approvals will be forthcoming.
A defiant Claure added: "No stadium downtown, no team in Miami."
