Beckham's Miami plans won't thwart Orlando City's MLS chances

Orlando City SC's chances of being granted a MLS license will not be harmed by David Beckham's Miami expansion plans.

The former LA Galaxy star will reportedly exercise his option to unearth a new MLS club in Miami which has prompted suggestions that perhaps Orlando City's opportunity in Florida may be thwarted.

But MLS Executive Vice President Dan Courtemanche told the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday that the Lions are looking the goods to land the league's 21st license.

"We are working very closely with Orlando City's ownership to finalize an expansion agreement to bring Major League Soccer to Central Florida," said Courtemanche.

"MLS plans to add four expansion teams by 2020, and discussions with other potential expansion markets have no impact on our plans for MLS expansion in Orlando."
