David Beckham's Miami soccer franchise continues to gather momentum in regards to the development of a stadium for his incoming team.
The Miami Herald reports that Beckham's business partners and real estate consultants are considering plans to develop a venue near the home of the NBA's Miami Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena.
The initial plans for the Miami franchise, which will enter MLS in 2017, was to seek a site in PortMiami but a Miami Seaport Alliance has contested that notion as they feel it would interfere with their cruise line operations.
Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez proposed that Beckham and his team could pursue a more community-friendly arena idea which has been met with an open mind by the former LA Galaxy star's consultant John Alschuler.
"I think on balance, you know, everybody felt that this site was one that was in the best interest of the citizens and we believe in the best interest of the soccer fans," Alschuler said.
The site that has been proposed by Mayor Gimenez is currently occupied by a 'large unused boat slip that could be filled and linked to other bay-area attractions' according to the Miami Herald.
