Beckham delighted with strong LA Galaxy start

LA Galaxy produced a quick-fire start to their match with Portland Timbers on Sunday and it was a point which delighted star midfielder David Beckham.

Prior to the 3-0 victory at The Home Depot Center, the Galaxy had scored just seven goals in seven matches but managed to hit the back of the net twice in the opening 10 minutes to set up their fourth triumph of the season.

Beckham, who had a hand in the second goal with his neat through ball for Landon Donovan, who was fouled in the area and converted the ensuing penalty, said it was vital that LA finally produced a rapid beginning after some recent slow starts.

"Chad (Barrett) scored a great goal to start and it obviously sets it up well tonight and we've not had that in the last few games," said Beckham.

"We've had disappointing starts early on in the season, so it's good to get off to a good start, good to get off the way we did."

Galaxy skipper Donovan, who scored twice on the night, agreed with Beckham's sentiments.

"[The early goal] kind of helps everyone's confidence, it takes some pressure off, adrenaline gets going a little more so it all played out very well," he said.
