Beckham backs Ferguson decision to drop Rooney from Man Utd line-up

LA Galaxy star David Beckham backed Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to drop Wayne Rooney from the line-up.

Rooney did not play in the 3-3 draw with Everton on the weekend as Ferguson tried to protect him from inevitable abuse he would have copped from the Goodison Park faithful after revelations of his extra-marital affairs involving a prostitute.

Beckham believes Ferguson is the right man to deal with big-name players like Rooney and believes the decision by the Scottish tactician was the correct one.

"Sir Alex Ferguson knows more than anyone about his players," the former Red Devil said.

"He has obviously made a decision what is best for him and for his team.

"Wayne's definitely being looked after by the right club, and the right manager.

"He's a great footballer at the end of the day."
