Beckham and LA Galaxy edge Melbourne Victory in penalty shootout

MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy have defeated Melbourne Victory in a penalty shootout in their international friendly at Etihad Stadium.

The Hyundai Club Challenge match ended 2-2 after regular time with the Galaxy getting the job done in the shootout 4-3.

The Victory lead 2-0 by the 37th minute following goals from Carlos Hernandez and Isaka Cernak before former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane converted twice from the penalty spot either side of half-time to level for the visitors.

After the 90 minutes had the scores locked at 2-2, the match went to penalties with the Galaxy saluting in front of a healthy crowd of 34,608.

Star attraction David Beckham played 89 minutes and performed well with some customary pinpoint passing but had to come off late with a hamstring strain whilst Victory star Harry Kewell did not feature at all.
