Beckham: AC Milan debut was good fun

David Beckham was delighted with his debut for AC Milan in last night's 2-2 draw with Roma. He said: "I enjoyed it. I thought it was a very good game. I felt good playing with so many great players.

"I was surprised to start. I felt very strong. It was my first game for a long time.

"They're a great team to play for with a lot of great players. They play very good football. But the future is I go back to California. That's the agreement."

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with Beckham's input.

He said: "I played him from the start because during the week in training he worked hard and earned it.

"He played well and showed he deserved it and because he's intelligent enough to understand how this team plays, we were able to keep our balance with him in midfield.

"He's a Milan player for two months and if he keeps improving I will start him again. Today he was very simple and disciplined."

More than 400 journalists from all corners of the globe were accredited for this game and as soon as news that Becks would start filtered through many were stunned.

This was Beckham's first start in top-level club football since June 2007 when he played his last game for Real Madrid.
