Franz Beckenbauer has revealed that Brian Barwick and the Football Association are undecided over whether the next national coach will be an Englishman.
The German World Cup winner has spoken to Barwick along with Michel Platini who expressed the view that McClaren's successor should be English.
Beckenbauer has divulged that he was surprisingly not asked about his views on former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann who has been reported as being interested in the position.
"I had a conversation with Mr Barwick, and he asked me all about English football," Beckenbauer told the Daily Mail.
"But we did not speak about anyone who might fill the England vacancy."
