The BBC is to broadcast live radio commentary from at least 16 games from this season's Women's Super League, after securing an exclusive deal with The Football Association, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. In a move that 'reinforces the BBC's ongoing commitment to women's sport, according to a statement from the corporation on Thursday, coverage will be broadcast on digital station 5 Live Sports Extra, with some coverage on Radio 5 Live.
Kelly Simmons, director of women's football at the FA, said: "Our fans, along with newcomers to the game, will enjoy unprecedented levels of women's football coverage in what is a very exciting year ahead.
"We've set out a plan with our partners to develop high quality semi-professional women's football in England and the partnership with the BBC is instrumental in helping us deliver on our ambition."
5 Live's coverage will be produced by independent production company World Sports Communications and will complement the BBC's existing coverage of women's football, ahead of next year's Fifa World Cup in Canada.
