Bayern Munich's Rummenigge sticks up for Premiership owners

Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinze Rummenigge has stood up for Premiership clubs in the face of attacks from UEFA president Michel Platini.

The acting chairman of the 103-strong European Club Association - European football's powerful new club forum - dismissed Platini's opposition to English clubs building up debts and becoming successful with borrowed money.

"They have investors like Roman Abramovich, the gentleman (Thaksin Shinawatra) at Manchester City and those from America but it is not against the law. I have spoken to Michel and told him not to be too harsh with his words with relation to English clubs."
