Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery admits he's come close to joining Manchester City and Chelsea in the past.
Ribery concedes he was close to quitting Bayern when current Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was in charge.
"I went through a difficult period in 2009 when Van Gaal came to the club.
"Not just because I did not agree with Van Gaal, but also because many clubs wanted me: Juventus, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
"My agent and Real Madrid representatives had already had a number of conversations. My wife told me that she'd gladly move to Madrid if that was what I wanted to do.
"I did not know what I would do and was about to move. I then had two or three meetings with Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and they were fantastic.
"I will never forget them."
