Liverpool are set to receive some strong competition in their pursuit if Bayer Leverkusen's Julian Brandt.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Jurgen Klopp's Reds are up against German giants Bayern Munich in the chase for the highly-rated 20-year-old winger.

Liverpool have watched Brandt several times this season and are believed to be readying a summer offer.

But it is understood that Bundesliga champions Bayern have opened talks with the four-time Germany international who they eventually see as moving into a more central position and becoming a long-term replacement for Thiago Alcantara.
