Trotters boss Owen Coyle is weighing up making a £2 million move for Ottl.
Reports in Germany state that Ottl, 26, wants to leave the Bundesliga club and is set to be sold during the summer.
The German midfielder has a wealth of experience and has also been linked with move to Basel and several Italian clubs.
