Bayern Munich won't be competing for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The Daily Mail says Rooney's proposed £25million transfer to Chelsea moved a step nearer after claims Bayern Munich wanted to sign him were exposed as a myth. Senior sources at the Allianz Arena have flatly dismissed any interest in the Manchester United striker, in a stance that leaves the way clear for Chelsea to move in and offer him a fresh start.

PSG are bound to maintain an interest, but Jose Mourinho's wish for a physical presence up front at Stamford Bridge, and belief that Rooney can fit the bill, suggests he could start next season in Chelsea colours.
