Bayern Munich eyeing Everton keeper Wessels

With Bayern Munich in the hunt for a back-up keeper to Michael Rensing for next season, it seems as though Stefan Wessels is being lined up for a return to the club.

Wessels is currently at Everton but is intent on leaving the Premiership club at the end of the season.

"Oliver Kahn is retiring at the end of the season, and Michael Rensing will succeed him, so we need to bring in a goalkeeper," admitted chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in an interview with Sport 1.

"The decision about personnel has not been made yet, but will take place very soon." One option that seems highly likely is that former reserve keeper Stefan Wessels will return to the Allianz Arena after spending a season in England with Everton.

The 29 year old has failed to settle or make the grade at Goodison Park having not fully convinced Toffees manager David Moyes. He has had to settle for a bit-part role as Tim Howard's deputy.
