Bayern Munich defender Boateng warns Man City not to expect De Bruyne to be the 'messiah'

Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng warns Manchester City not to expect too much from club record signing Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester City splashed a whopping £54.5million to secure the services of De Bruyne from Wolfsburg over the summer and given his price tag, a lot is certainly expected from the midfielder at the Etihad Stadium.

However, former City defender Boateng feels that putting the burden on the shoulders of De Bruyne due to his price tag will be counterproductive and stated that the Belgian star must be given time to adapt in the Premier League.

Boateng told Kicker: "The transfer fee they paid for him brings enormous pressure with it. Manchester City have brought him in like he is the Messiah. They are expecting miracles from him.

"But life in the Premier League is nothing like in the Bundesliga. Referees don't whistle for fouls as often and the game is a lot faster as a result. A lot of teams still play long balls, even if City themselves employ a different style."
