Newcastle United have all but completed the signing of Metz defender Sebastien Bassong.

Toon have confirmed on their official website that the France Under 21 international has passed a medical and accepted personal terms.

A fee has also been settled upon with Metz and the club are now "in the process of completing the formalities of the transfer".

Bassong has travelled with the Newcastle squad to Mallorca for this weekend's Summer Cup.
