Joey Barton has moved a step closer to making his Newcastle United debut.

"We have just heard that Joey Barton has got the all-clear to complete the long process of recovering from his metatarsal injury from the specialist, and this will speed up his return," Toon boss Sam Allardyce told the Evening Chronicle yesterday.
