Barton may be blocked from Newcastle preseason USA tour

Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton faces missing out on their preseason tour of the USA.

The Mirror says Barton will have to convince United States immigration officials he is not a danger to the public before he can join Newcastle on their pre-season tour.

The midfielder will have to undergo an interview at the US Embassy in London to gain a visa for United's trip in July.

Barton served 74 days in prison after admitting assault and affray in an attack on a teenager outside McDonalds in Liverpool. He also has a four-month suspended sentence for ABH on former Manchester City teammate Ousmane Dabo.

That means he will not be granted an automatic visa for the tour games against Sporting Kansas City and Columbus Crew and will have to rely on an appeal.
