Former Burnley midfielder Joey Barton has criticised Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho over his treatment of Luke Shaw.
Shaw left-back was hooked at half-time in the FA Cup quarter-final vs Brighton, before Mourinho publicly criticised him once again.
“Mourinho kept looking at Luke Shaw like he's something he's just stood on while out walking his dog," Barton said on talkSPORT.
“He just doesn't fancy him – that's the reality of it. You can ruin a young boy's career, he was a promising young talent.
“He wasn't a Mourinho signing was he.
"He's given him game time but Shaw is clearly devoid of confidence and is not reaching his potential either due to injuries and a lack of belief from those around him.
"Look, at Manchester United if you don't perform at the highest level when you're given the opportunity, they generally go out and buy the best available. That's what they've historically done and I expect them to do the same again.
“I still think Luke Shaw would be a good player wherever he goes, but there will be a psychological rebuilding process for him."
