Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says they'll soon appoint a new sports director.

Bartomeu sacked Andoni Zubizarreta last week.

"Barcelona fans can sleep easy, because whoever it is that is chosen to be the new director of football, the club has a lot of qualified individuals to choose from.

"The person chosen will be someone that has already been connected to the club", he said.

Bartomeu believes that for the role it is "important to understand the club, its surroundings and its very DNA". He continued: "We've spoken with some people, but there's no rush and we're progressing slowly."
