Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu hailed the performance of Xavi in victory at Celta Vigo.

The veteran midfielder is expected to leave Barca this summer for Qatar's Al Sadd club.

"He is always necessary, he is the best midfielder in the club's history, always plays well," said Bartomeu. "He is very important to us, he changes games when he enters the field.

"We noticed he brought freshness to the team which was needed."

Asked about Qatar, Bartomeu continued: "I know he was traveling with his family and wife, but I know nothing. He knows he can decide to stay or leave this year, he has earned that right and it is his decision.

"Whatever he decides it will be his decision."
