Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry has been awarded a pay-rise - without asking for one!

Boss Martin O'Neill wanted to reward his skipper for his performances last season and for staying loyal to the club.

A year ago Barry considered quitting but was persuaded to stay and is now Villa's top earner on £45,000 a week.
